What is the Change and How Will You Be Informed?
Eli Lilly and Company, the makers of the Mounjaro 2.5mg KwikPen, have secured approval from the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) to extend the product’s shelf life from 9 months to 14 months. As a result, pens from batches D720751 and D720957 now expire in February 2025 instead of September 2024.
When you place an order for the Mounjaro 2.5mg KwikPen, we will inform you about this change during the online consultation process. Additionally, this information will be reiterated in your treatment approval email, accompanied by a copy of the official letter from Eli Lilly, which thoroughly explains the expiry date extension.
Understanding the Dates
Medicine expiry dates differ slightly from those on food items. They are presented in MM/YYYY format, where ‘MM’ indicates that the medication is safe to use until the end of that month, and ‘YYYY’ denotes the year up to which it remains viable. For instance, if a medicine is marked as 02/2025, it is safe to use until the last day of February 2025.
Is This Medication Safe to Use?
Yes, it is. Before any extension of an expiry date is granted, Eli Lilly collaborates with the MHRA to ensure there is no risk to patient safety or effectiveness of the medication. Please note, our clinic does not partake in this procedure and cannot alter the expiry dates of the medications we supply.
Why Does the Pen Still Show the Old Date?
The expiry date modification occurred post-production of the affected batches. To maintain adequate availability of the medication, Eli Lilly has opted not to recall the pens to update their labels. Instead, an official letter detailing the change is included with any orders containing pens from these batches.
Will Other Providers Be Affected?
Indeed, any healthcare provider with supplies of the Mounjaro 2.5mg KwikPen from the specified batches will also experience this change. Remember, only Eli Lilly and the MHRA can approve changes to medicine expiry dates; weight loss service providers do not possess this capability.
